A FEW WEEKS AGO I HAD TO TAKE MY DISCOVERY INTO LANDROVER BECAUSE I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE.....I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD OIL TRACING UP THE INJECTOR LOOM AND IT HAD GOT INTO THE ECU....HAD A NEW LOOM FITTED AND THE ECU CLEANED OUT??? SEEMED A BIT STANGE BUT THERE YOU ARE...4 WEEKS LATER SAME PROBLEM TOTAL ENGINE FAILIER.....QUESTION CAN YOU CLEAN AN ECU?
IF NOT IF I GET A NEW ONE IS A CASE OF SWOPPING IT OVER OR IS IT A CASE OF HAVING IT "RE MAPPED"?
IF ANY ONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS 1 IN 4 PROBLEM GET IN TOUCH. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT..

THANKS MIKE:mad:

From what I have read, when you change the loom you have to still keep cleaning out the red plug on the ECU a few times, as there will be residual oil on the section of loom nearest the ECU. That will still find it's way onto the plug.

You could check yourself. It's a 5 minute job to check the plug and you could spray it with contact cleaner if oily.

It would be a good idea to check and clean the black plug also.

If your plug isn't oily it could be something else.

I have also read on the forums that oil can't get past the plug into the ECU.

Cheers

Andy
