cor blimey.. always had a fasination for one of them.
what started it was back in the day - mid 1970`s, i was doing the banger racing circuits, one was harringay north london, where a huge guy named tiny used one for brakedown-towing off between races.
he normaly had one on the hook, pushing two more dead bangers with flat tyres, up the wooden covered slope that had a the dog track under it on non banger racing days. that gypsy was painted yellow, and it pushed and pulled for england, unstopable thing..
dont know if he run the normal diesel lump or changed it but it forever stuck in my mind..

At the time, the Austin Gipsy (correct spelling) was giving the Landy a bit of a run for its money, but with the merger of BMC (British Motor Corporation) with Leyland to form British Leyland, both vehicles were being produced by the same company so one of them had to go, fortunately for Land Rover owners it was the Gipsy which bit the dust in 1968 after a production run of some 21 thousand vehicles.
