Hi all,

From what I gather, Mike at Dynachips is the man to talk to about a remap. I've only called and left a message at this time, but I gather he travels to you and fits a few in locally at same time if he can.

So really, this is just a heads up that he may be in the area soon. Once I get a date, i'll post back. Having him in the area may push you over the edge to make the decision. From what I read, it's either TD5Alive or Dynachips. I haven't stumbled upon a negative comment about his service yet.

If a few people say yay in the area, maybe we could all get together to make it easier for him (and maybe even barter for a deal - purely thinking aloud, no confirmation and at £225 probably not even doable)

Ta

Ben

Just had mine done by him, cant sing his praises highly enough.

That's what EVERYBODY says it seems! You cannot beat good word of mouth! It reads as though he could probably even bump up his price and still have them flocking (but don't tell him I said that until he's done mine)

Mike is coming next Wednesday if anybody in the area wants to ring and see if he can fit you in at the same time.

I'm just outside of

Well what can I say.

Not only is Mike a nice guy, but he really did the business on the car. Runs much smoother with a nice deep throaty burble. A more responsive and consistent drive through all gears and you can really feel the torque. My head snapped back on leaving the carpark, it's truly like a new car and how it should have come off the factory line! I was almost a bit scared on the drive home! I'm fairly sure it's a lot quieter too as my ears aren't currently ringing.

A really smooth operation from start to finish and very very reasonably priced!

Cannot recommend highly enough. He did mention a turbo boost box you can fit. Looks fairly simple from what I can see. Does anybody know exactly what's in the box of tricks?!?

Boost box just lets you raise the boost above the limit (about ~18psi) your boost should be around 14psi at the moment.

Though I wouldnt reccomend doing that without a fullsize intercooler due to the increased heat produced.

Also the boxes (from Alive Tuning) are about £120 and will only give an extra 4 or so psi boost before issues.

Theres manifold warping to consider, EGT temps, Turbo stress all sorts!

Ive decided to stick at 17psi to be safe (measured from the inlet via boost gauge) and fit a larger intercooler. That should bring me to around ~180bhp.

You have any other mods done?

EGR removed, straight-through pipes, no cat and now the remap. He gave the impression that for the extra little bit you get from the 'Boost Box', no further upgrades would be necessary. I've already read about the warping etc.. I'm not really trying to go light speed, just improve the driving experience more than anything.

What kind of costs for new intercooler etc?

I looked it up didnt seem that great to me....

Same mods as me then!

Britpart performance intercooler is about £350, apparently near identical to the higher priced gucci ones. Set of intercooler hoses £54, may as well while its out.

From what Ive read, combined with the map and the above mods should bring to about a ~180bhp level, ~280-340ft/lb torque, smoother and increased mpg. Some reports of 30+ driving sensibly.

I would fit a boost gauge as well, theres a few available for about £30 which work well. Theres also an EGR blank pipe with a tap for a boost gauge, gives a much mpre accurate reading than tapping in at the actuator.

Have you got a snorkel fitted?

Yes, snorkel fitted. I was thinking about this last night as it's a standard filter in there. I thought i'd get a K&N but then wondered if the snorkel is inhibiting airflow or improving it?!? In this context, I figured making it worse as it has to travel further? Or is it better as it's direct?

From everything I've read keeping that standard paper air filter is the way to go. Is it the mushroom type or safari type? As the Safari type acts like an air ram forcing more air in at higher speeds, but also potentially susceptible to water ingress during heavy rain. So I was going to use a Terrafirma pre-filter which fits over the top.

Theres an airbox mod you can do which is popular in Australia, only really works if you have a snorkel fitted.

Basically makes the air flow much less restricted, one thing I have noticed is the turbo is up to full boost considerably quicker than before. Just make sure all the holes in the airbox and piping are fully sealed against water ingress.

To further improve, albeit minor improvements I was going to rip out the standard air intake system and replace it with some ali ducting coated in plasti-dip of the same diameter, should increase the airflow slightly and then I know 100% it is sealed.

Lots of people reckon the ram air effect helps, BUT if you do some research you will see the ram air effect doesnt take place until much higher speeds, like well over a 100mph!
Also be careful with any oiled air filter ie k+n as the oil can get onto the hot wire sensor in the MAF and mess the readings, again few minute on google will tell what you need to know especially ref the k+n

Mines the safari type. I'll give it a good old google before doing anything further :)

Can't quite stretch to a new intercooler... Doh :)
