Had some spends for Chrimbo so wanted to frivolously waste it on something for the disco that did something to improve the interior.
We have 2 kids (5 and 2) so whenever we go 'on trips' the headrest mounted DVD player comes out. Now, you can't fit a normal one of those on the headrests in a 300tdi - without some fettling/fiddling!!
As I'm planning on taking the Disco on our yearly trip to France I thought I'd start looking to modify/acquire an alternative.
Happened to pop into Maplins during the week between Chrimbo and NYE and picked up one of these for about 70 quid, now back up to 100 quid.
Fitted it to the 'map holder' roof console thingy - bang in the middle, where I suppose the gear for the sunroof would be. Its quite far forward (or backward) towards the rear of the car, so that I cannot see it when driving.
On the photo, the mount (with the fins) is mounted using the supplied double sided sticker that wouldn't hold on its own plus 4 screws through the pre-drilled holes - screws weren't supplied, but I had some black ones handy. Didn't drill any holes - just gently screwed the screws in with the screwdriver bit in the drill.
Routed the coax for the big mag mount aeriel round the gaps in the map holder and just bung it on the roof when needed.
Happily takes AVIs from a USB stick or SD Card. Only complaint is it doesn't seem to remember where you were if the unit loses power or you turn it off.
TV works well, obviously when stationary, hopeless round these parts when moving as mountains/buildings cause it to pixelate and lose signal. Has come in handy when SWMBO has popped into Tesco for a few bits and has been in there for over an hour!!
Pre-existing DVD player thing now permanently mounted in SWMBO car.
