Dear friends,
Defender 90, Y2000 Td5 .. 130k miles.
During an of-road event weeks ago I hit ground hard and something bad definitely happened - but I don't know what. The transfer lever got very wobbly and a grinding noise started immediately when in low range. No visible damage beneath. I'm thinking transfer box problems or worst case center diff. The clutch also started to make funny noises when being depressed. Need to look at this soon.
However I have for a long time considered to rebuild the transfer box with a Aschcroft 1.22 gear kit. The rear crank seal is leaking too.
So maybe I should give the whole drive line a 'light' overhaul.
In such case - what would you recommend me to replace?
(The clutch and flywheel has been replaced some 50k miles ago)
I'm thinking:
1) Oil leak - bell house:
- rear crank seal
- new seal - engine sump cover
- new seal - centrifuge drain pipe at sump
2) Clutch parts:
- Spigot bush
- Clutch release bearing.
3) Rebuild lt230 into 1.22 ratio:
- Aschcroft 1.22 kit incl. new seals.
- Large sump cover for lt230 (td5 with remap)
- Seals at output shafts.
4) R380 gear box:
- Rear support bearing
- liquid seal (?)
Please share your thoughts - what else should I do/replace when everything is being taken apart?
Best regards
Lars
