Put the key into the drivers door lock on my D2 for the first time yesterday... the lock just turns both ways 180 degrees with no resistance, like it's not connected to anything inside, which is probably right :)

I need to strip it down to take a look, is this a common problem ? any pointers in the right direction would be great. Do I have to start by stripping the interior door trim ?

The central locking and keyfobs work fine, it's just a mechanical problem with the key lock

Thx

Sounds like the linkage from the lock barrel to the latch assembly might have come loose.
Getting at it can be a bit of a trial.
  • Remove door card. You'll have to cut some holes in the plastic which can be resealed with gaffer tape
  • Remove the sill top on the inside of the door
  • Remove the outer sill seal
  • You should now be able to look down to see what's happenned. To do anything about it you'll have to go further:
  • Undo the bolts holding the window frame
  • Undo the bolts holding the window to the winder mechanism
  • Lift the window frame clear from the door.
  • You might have to loosen the latch bolts to move it around to reconnect the linkage.
The procedure is in RAVE and there are some ideas on this guy's website: http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Reardoor_lock.html
