Hi my dad has just bought a 110 2.5na and it blows blue smoke a fair amount of the time and uses oil he thinks he should just get rid of it unless he knows how much the cost of the repair. I disagree because its had new wheels tyres springs full waxoil on the chassis and a respray so its really good for its age 1984 he got it for just over £1500 pound is it worth keeping and getting sorted

Changing the rings is a fairly simple job if you or your dad are reasonably mechanically minded. and the parts are cheap to buy. or for 4 or 5 hundred quid he could buy a series 1 disco with a 2ootdi engine in it and fit that.

Rings are easy to fit, but it's almost a complete engine strip, and you may find yourself needing other parts as well like big end shells. There will probably be wear on the bores leaving a ridge at the top and if you fit standard rings they tend to catch this and break so ask for ridge dodgers. These have a notch out of them on the top ring to avoid this problem.

If it were me I would strip it it's an experience and if you take your time you will have no probs. If the oil discharge is too bad it may fail the M.O.T on hydrocarbons. I am sure if you get stuck help is available, just ask.
