do I unplug the ECU?

Am about to do some welding to the chassis on the disco (series1) I know I have to disconnect the battery but do I also need to unplug the ECU? If so whereabouts is it? It's a 93 200tdi 3 door.

just disconnect the battery negative terminal

That's what I thought and it's what my bro always does. but I read a thread on a nuther forum that said you need to unplug the ecu as well. But It spent most of Saturday with a welder attached to it and it's been fine. So they were obviously talking bollox
