Looking at getting one for the Defender in an attempt to keep thieving bastid's at bay (amongst an array of other devices) - are they worth the effort ?

If they are, my wheel is a '14 Momo (35.5cm) effort so would a small Disklok (unto 39cm I believe) still be too big ?

Hi,

If you do get a Disclock, then it is worthwhile doing the half moon mod on the back. Not sure on size as I have the full size steering wheel.

Cheers

One of the ideas about the Disklok is that once it's fitted it prevents a firm grip on the steering wheel, therefore making steering the vehicle extremely difficult and forcing the wheel round hard enough to break the steering lock almost impossible. So it should be a loose sliding fit on the steering wheel.
Unfortunately if it is loose, there's a likelihood that it might be able to be levered off the wheel by getting some kind of bar down inside the rear of the disklok allowing it to be levered over the steering wheel edge, albeit causing much savage damage to the steering wheel.
The "half moon mod" to which @neilly refers requires two pieces of steel cut into half moon shapes and welded onto the back of the disklok to prevent access to the steering wheel edge and therefore reducing the risk of it being removed with a lever.

Being Thatchham approved it's a recommended Cat. 3 device & the 'half-moon's' are a good idea - however a determined scumbag with a beaver-tail truck could still winch your pride & joy on board. Try to make access to either end of the LR difficult for them as well

I'm probably being paranoid but I don't think we should have info on how to over come security devices (even if it is academic) on a public forum

I can see your point, but highlighting the good/bad features of these measures is surely part of the advice you seek - after all it's not as if we are telling the scumbags anything they don't already know, they may well be total morons but are likely to possess at least one brain cell even if it has criminal intent.
