Disk Brake conversion LR90

want to improve my brakes on my 90, its an ExMOD 90 with drum brakes on the rear.
Now, i would like to convert the rear to disk brake, i know that this can be done to the 110/Salisbury axle, but mine has the standard LR axle.
Is the process the same as the 110/Salisbury, or would it be better just to fit a Range Rover/Disco 1 axle, although i would like to retain the current axle.

Any advice would be apricated on which way to go.....i have no problems in doing the work myself.

If it is a 90 the easiest and quickest and probably cheapest way would be to fit a later rover type axle which has disk brakes. On a 110 this cannot be done due to the weight rating which is why there are conversions for a Salisbury axle.

Don't be sentimental and fit a discovery 24 spline axle

And if you fit one to the front you can fit alloys without the need for spacers

Are you sure the drums are adjusted properly and the front brakes doing all they should?

discs on the rear won’t actually improve your overall stopping power that much.

i have a 90 with discs and drums and properly adjusted the brakes are excellent

Unless you have a load in the back all your going to do is lock up the rears.

To increase braking power on your 90 fit so called 110 callipers, they are a bit larger and were standard on all models from tdi's on. Just a bolt on job. Front wheels do most of the work braking, the rears are for stability in the main.

Which is a terrible idea as land rovers should have steel wheels which, after they have been bent off road can be beaten to back to a vaguely round form, with a rock, in the middle of the dessert. You cannot do that with an alloy!

Put a few steels back into shape over the years. Alloys are just bling on a landy.

@ringoosmeg ,as above, recommend you install 110 calipers and discs to front. I've recently installed AP calipers, 110 vented discs and improved Mntex pads to the front, and rebuilt the rear drums with similar Mintex shoe material. I know from previous rebuilds my MOD 90 will stop on a sixpence with solid progressive braking:. perfect braking without the faff of back end rebuild. Drums are so easy to maintain, they just need a 5min adjustment once a year...plus, if original rear axle your 90 with already have HD drive shafts.

Thanks all, i will Probaly stay with the drums, and give them a god overhaul. i need to strip down anyway as the drivers side has oil contamination.
may do the 110 disks/calliper upgrade to the fronts though.
need to do the chassis repairs though.......
