Hi all - I hope no one minds me posting this request for advice but I'm in a quandry.

I need to buy a good tow car (trailer my horses most weekends) but one that also gives a nice on road ride for during the week and has reasonable performance as I love driving something with a bit of poke. I do plenty of miles (20k a year) and have come to the conclusion that an LPG conversion will best suit my purposes.

I test drove a 2002 Discovery today which is very nice and will do everything I need and I'd pretty much decided it was the car for me but then someone suggested I try a Range Rover conversion. I'd always thought they were well out of my price range but a quick internet search reveals that there are some around I can afford. But a Range Rover does feel rather an indulgent buy compared to a Disco.

So my question is (finally!) which is a better buy? A Disco or a Range Rover. Does the Range Rover cost significantly more to service or repair when things go wrong? Performance wise does the Disco lag a long way behind?

Any advice/suggestions gratefully received. :D
