I am halfway through changing the steering box ( 4 bolt ) for a recon
unit from Paddocks. A couple of questions if anyone can help please;
The front two tie bar mounting holes on the new box are fractionally (
about 1mm ) too small for the bolts, are there different types ?
Secondly, do I just assume that the recon box has been set up to mount
the drop arm forward facing i.e has it been centralised? I dont want to
torque the bottom arm back on and find it needs to come off again.

You have no choice! There is no provision for repositioning the drop
arm on the output shaft - dead splines should allow it to fit in only
one position.

You would have to try quite hard to assemble the 'box incorrectly -
it's easy to check, surely, before you refit the parts. You can turn
the shafts without having it plumbed in if that's your worry.

not definitive, but it sounds like the difference between say 7/16" UNF and
10mm.

if the old bolts are fine thread and 7/16" dia (about 11mm) then try a 10mm
metric bolt in the new holes, if it screws in easily (finger pressure) then
you've found the answer.
