Hi,
I have a 2002, 2.5 td5 Discovery. I've had it a while and have recently had the glow plugs changed as it was sometimes a bit slow to start (took a couple of attempts). My wife ran over a brick in the centre of town which went up into the rear arch and clipped the fuel filter which leaked everywhere - 1 quick recovery vehicle trip and a new filter later and it was back on the road although still a bit difficult to start and was also cutting out when run at speed or under load (full lock, up hill or stopping at junctions).
I've since had a length of the fuel pipe replaced as the ends were slack and the mechanic suspected that it was drawing air in, the fuel pump has now been replaced twice with genuine units and the fuel filter housing unit with the one way valve has been replaced and it's still displaying the same symptoms (although it's quicker to start now), after the last lot of cutting out I pulled into the petrol station to fuel it up (it hasn't used much in the last 2 months as most of the time it's been in the garage getting bits swapped out) and whilst fueling I noticed vapour (almost like steam) coming out of the filler pipe which leads me to wonder (and here's my daft theory that I need some advice on) if the fuel cooler is faulty and isn't cooling the fuel prior to it's return to the tank which is causing air bubbles as it boils which in turn is airlocking the system.
Thoughts pelase if you have any?
Mark
