Hi all, thank for advice received so far, it really helps.

Next job, suspension.

I want to replace the springs and shock absorbers on my 1995 3.9 V8iES and
would appreciate advice on what to fit and where to get it from.

Given my grossly inexperienced status it seems sensible to buy a "kit"
including bushes, nuts and bolts etc.

I am aware of "polybushes" but don't really know what they are.

Confidence and understanding of my Discovery is growing now that my 16 year
old son and I have given the old Disco a better service than it has probably
ever had so while we are still bursting with pride and enthusiasm we want to
tackle the suspension.

One last thing.... I tow a trailer weighing 2 tons a lot of the time so need
uprated suspension at the back.

Thanks

Les

PS. This is the second time I have posted this, the first vanished into
thin air. I see someone has been posting test messages as they too seem to
have a similar problem.

No it didn't, you might need to wait more than 8 minutes if you're on a crap
server, or haven't refreshed .. ;)

In fairness few messages posted to alt.fan.landrover on the ntl server
(text.news.ntlworld.com & news.ntlworld.com) make it through, even the OP
messages are hit and miss, some do some don't on an almost every other post
basis... been there and seen it myself having had a couple of years of no
issues then absolute crap service from ntl's servers.

I'm a mild mannered kind of guy but told Ntl where to stick it after several
months of lies and failed promises to resolve this. The OP has my sympathy.

Anyone who does cancel an Ntl account do get All the names and post
everything recorded delivery and make sure you cancel all direct debits
promptly.

I have an ntl account, indeed I run NTL Freedom broadband, but only use
their newsgroups on my laptop so am aware of it's limitations, but I know
that there are far fewer lost articles than many people suggest. This guy
simply didn't wait for his article to be propogated, then gives the
impression that he wants an answer within 10 minutes, or less, of posting

....but with a decent service from your ISP, you can expect it.

Use Zen.

Not really. No nntp service can instantly propagate all messages, it
doesn't work that way. Mind, seeing your _own_ postings within a few
minutes whilst nice and reassuring, doesn't mean it's a good service,
just that it shows you what you've posted locally... :)

True, but its pretty well instant in the UK hierachy in my experience.
Like the time I posted on uk.sci.astronomy with a landrover question,
cancelled it within less than 10 seconds, and STILL ended up creating a
thread on Landy owning astronomers....

At the risk of repeating myself in other threads my personal experience with
ntl was several years of trouble free Newsgroups then around January 2005 I
found I suffered the same problems as this chap... well documented here
under a subject NTHell on a google search.

He could wait a month and his posts (if the issue is the same as mine was)
will not surface on the ntl server for him to see, yet they are perfectly
visible to others. It's not propagation issue. It's not a simple case of try
a test group as the problem effects only a limited number of groups. I spent
several months with Ntl's tech support trying to get the problem addressed
but as a little fish in a big pond I found little interest. In the end I
voted with my feet.

My problems were on machines where nothing (settings or software wise) had
changed and all I used them for was surfing the groups. So equpiment and
operator error are most unlikely. It's a server issue. Given half of those
at Tech support Ntl don't understand the term Newsgroup or usenet it's
likely to remain so for some time to come. Most frustrating of all it's a
problem which comes and goes for the subscriber day by day.

Please give the chap some leeway. Despite frustratedly trying to get a post
on the group and doing everything as you would expect to have too he's only
guilty of being persistant and wanting to get answers to an on topic
problem.
