Disco special tools

Just went to change water pump gasket on my Ser 11 disco V8.
Part of the proceedure is to remove the viscous fan which I was aware of
but didn't realise I need 2 special tools to do it.
I can see in my manual that one is to loosen the nut but can't tell what
the other one does, I'm guessing it holds the fan and stops it from turning.
I can manufacture something to fit and loosen the nut but not sure as
how to hold the fan without the risk of breaking it.
Any advise on how to hold the fan? If i could see a picture, of this
tool, or if someone could explain to me how it attaches I'm sure I could
make one.

32mmm spanner, ISTR, thin and flat and with a wiggle in it. get it set on
the hex hub of the fan, and then hit the end with a medium-sized hammer.
Remember that the fan is left-hand thread. The other tool is probably for
holding the boss in place - otherwise you have to rely on the grip of the
drive belt and the inertia of the engine etc.

I think what I will do is manufacture a heavy duty spanner disgned to do
the job then do as you suggest and hit it with a hammer leaving the
drive belt connected to assist with grip.

not failed yet, IME. sometimes it takes quite a few hits. Remember the
left-hand thread, though.

I've seen some of the bigger ones with 36mm hex on the hub. You can
actually buy the spanners in halfrauds for a few quid, with a suitable crank
in the end to fit nicely, and a plastic bit on the end which you're advised
to remove before hittign it with the hammer.

If you have (or can borrow) one, a air chisel is the perfect tool for the
job, cracks it off in no time. Leaves a bit of a scar on the nut, but I
wouldn't worry too much if you don't plan to enter a concourse.
