hello needs some help please
i've had a disco 2 td5 manual for just over a year now and its always had a noisy fuel pump and if you leave
the fuel drop below quarter tank she will conk out as if she has no fuel, also its hit and miss when it come to power some days she fly's and other days seems to have no guts.
well Sunday i purchased a caravan went to collect it hooked it all up now this caravan was at the bottom of a very steep hill, went to drive off it wouldn't even move! high revs leave off handbrake and she would die out,
the caravan is 1300kg which should be no bother, my thought would be the pump, luckily my in law came with a 04 navara and it towed it back for me.
any help much appreciated thanks all.

This is what I've found so far checked ecu red plug a little tiny amount of oil so will probably get fuel harness and contact cleaner to clean it up checked wastegate actuator was a little sticky freed it up now and noticed a load of oil around the breather pipe to turbo I've put up images for anyone to look at any advice much appreciated

Cheers mate I'll check it out, No mate I'm trying to find someone with a nanocom around carmarthen/swansea
Foxwell, or Hawkeye will do, or else an independent LR garage should do you a reading for not much money.
Could also possibly be leaking injector seals.
I take it you've checked the fuel filter and water trap?
and connections to the tank?

Today I cleaned the map sensor installed a new camshaft bung as the old 1 was carroded loose and changed fuel harness cleaned ecu and new gasket omg! What a difference in vehicle the map sensor was stinking, much more power but not sure what its like under load yet but on hills it's gone from poor to good still feel like thers more in her, do you recommend an egr blank on her pal

Glad you found the difference a clean MAP makes!
As for the EGR, although it is generally hailed as "a good thing to to do", and i have done it on both my Disco 1 300 tdi and my Disco 2 TD5, I have to honestly swear that it has made no difference.
But It is no longer there to be cleaned and kept clean.
For the moment I would simply suggest you clean it ensure it can move as normal, then leave it alone.
You'll get far more of a boost from changing the exhaust for a sports version.

Stupid question pal, but if i went and egr blanked it would I need to purchase that hose or does it get plugged off pal?
I don't think you'd get away with not replacing any coolant hose. The only thing that get's blanked, is the feed from the exhaust part off the turbo. The EGR then gets replaced with a plain pipe with a flange on it. The inlet hose gets connected to this plain pipe as usual. There is a bit more to it than that but none that involves big hoses.
Don't your kit come with some instructions?
I'm sure if you searched a "how to" on the net, you'd find an instructable.

There is of course an easier way then replacing the EGR.
You just take the EGR off and clean it, then take off the oval flange with the two bolts, at the turbo, make up a thin oval plate of the same size, but with two bolt holes and no central hole in it. Sandwich that between the two flanges, that way you block the exhaust fumes going into the inlet manifold. It is also invisible unless you look very closely. This will keep the EGR and the inlet manifold clean, but do nothing else.

Alright pal only today I finished the job all because the egr return hose got snapped it was as brittle as egg shell! But all in place now egr return hose as been replaced and that's what I wanted to ask is now that I had to change the hose will the coolant system need bleeding?

I think you must have got a 15p engine.
mine is the earlier 10p engine, on a 2000 MY.
so I never got involved with the cooling system. So I have never bled mine.
But others have done and here is what you find on here when you search.

Best of luck mate. you seem to be getting there!:):):):):)

Getting there slowly pal ha! It's running better so today I attached the caravan to it and drove it around a feild flew round the feild on the flat came to an incline in the feild stopped hand break up, I wanted to simulate a hill start for If I was out on the road, guess what would not pull it up the hill give it high revs hand break off and it would just die out, surely that's a fueling issue? Fuel pump is loud as hell and never stops the priming sound I think ill try it with a mid price fuel pump see if that makes a difference pal

Do wish I knew more and could help you further.
Last thing I know about the fuel pump is that they have a low power circuit and a high power circuit.
I'm wondering if this could be the problem, and not just the circuit but maybe there's a blockage somewhere like in the filter or maybe in a pipe, or even something floating in the tank.
It is very weird for there to be only two people on a single thread so I will tag a couple of others to see if they can help.
@sierrafery ?
@discool ?
all the best mate.
Stan

Alright pal, finally had a local lad come out today with a hawk eye plugged it up 1 injector is playing up and maf censor and he said fuel pump Is dogged! He took it out for a spin and instantly felt the lack in power compared to the disco's he's had, he's got injector and bearmach fuel pump for me already also he's booking me into alive tuning remap they are down in carmarthen next weekend and he said it will be 100 times better so I'll keep you posted, couldn't believe how good a tool like that hawkey is mate.
