Hi all, I could really do with some help on this one. I know there’s a lot on here about this problem but I’ve not see a situation quite like mine. In short I took my disco wading and hit water too deep. The engine bay flooded and so did the front door wells. I now have the flashing M and S lights. I’ve cleaned the battery terminals, I’ve changed the gear box oil, I’ve removed the XYZ switch and cleaned all the contacts. I checked for a code but I’m not getting any error codes. I can clear the codes the lights will stop flashing she will drive fine up to the point I try to go up hill at which point the engine cuts out. The check engine light comes on and I have to leave the ignition of for 5 minutes as she won’t start again immediately. Does any one have any suggestions?

As an update she now won’t start at all. I’m still not getting any codes on the OBDII. It’s also not picking up any VIN information. Is there a chance that this is a BCU fault?

Which OBD diagnostic tool are you using?
Make sure your battery is fully charged @12.6VDC and has sufficient CCA.
Also, if the engine is cutting out after running and getting hot, it can be the crank position sensor is bad.

Thanks for helping. I’ve checked the battery and that is reading 12.7. I haven’t checked the CCA I’ll have a look at that and the sensor as I noticed that there was oil build up in the ECU so I know the injector loom needs replacing

The OBD is a miaroz. It’s cheap option off Amazon.

Definitely a Foxwell NT-510, -520 or -530 model
or
if you plan to keep it long term, invest in a Nanocom.
Why not a Hawkeye? If you really want to spend some dosh!! (and it don't mix up hubs like a Nanocom do!)
Yes 520 or 530!!! every time, especially if you more than one type of LR/JAg product!!!

Oops. I forgot about the Hawkeye and Lynx tools.
A Hawkeye tester is perfectly fine but the support is discontinued by the Bearmach company for software updates and/or maintenance issues.
The dreaded Nanocom wrong hub mix up has long been rectified with a firmware update 3+ years ago.

Thanks for your advice. I got the crank shaft sensor changed. I also put new XYZ switch on and upgraded the battery.
I Haven't upgrade my OBD yet. Its on the wish list of parts.
The fault in the end did lie with the ECU. I sent it off to ECU testing for a look and they confirmed that there was a lot of water damage. A replacement is on the way complete with a trip to the local specialists to have it programmed.

ECU TESTING are by far the worst on the planet.

Stands for Every Cnut U can think of, we finally got our money back after insitigating legal action. ( 2 VW ECU's) one with alledged water damage.
Its thier favourite response when they have no idea whats wrong.
Totaly incompetant, so IMO dont believe anything they tell you.

Chatting t my MOT tester, it turns out that he has known several examples of this company buggering up customers equipment......

It does seem that there area LOT of sharks out there.
I only just managed to prise an ECU from the fists of a local bunch who it turned out were crooks. Cheaper by far, in those days anyway, to get another working secondhand one and pay a garage to set it up to match the car's BCU, injectors etc. etc

LOL what Stanely said! Indeed, in the end a recon ABS ECU comlete with pump from Ebay for £50 fixed the problem first time.
ECU ****ting wanted £500+
Both of our defenders ECU's went to Alive tuning, came back 7 days later, tip top both been like a swiss watch ever since.
