Disco 1 interior revamp.

Hello all,

I am in the process of doin up the interior of my discovery 1, 1994.

My first question is, what on earth is the slotted bit for in the console?

Im going to vinyl the console and this is the first bit. Im wondering wheter i fill it in... hollow it out or leave that bit as it looks ok now ive cleaned it anyway. I will attach a pic.

Yea i thought coins, i tried to put a £1 in and it didnt fit. Seems like a bit of a shame.
Plectrums is a good idea
I decided to leave the vinyl, cleaned all switches, took the wing mirror switch apart and now it works! Happy days.

Todays work is the dials and buttons on the dash! Tested the lights at the back to rule them out, got some not working. Cleaned the connection points as well.

Deep cleaning the buttons, these plastic bits that go infront of the symbol are all discoloured some broken...
Any one tried to replace just those bits?
I may have to cut out of spare plastic to replace if i cannot buy them, which I find unlikely.
