Series 2 Disc transmission Brake

Hi,
Has anybody replaced the drum transmission brake with a disc one; does it break the rules for historic vehicles and is it any good?
 
Got 1 fitted to my 110. They are good. Only fitted as I kept having problems with rear out put seals and made changing quicker.
Should not affect the historic status as you still have the gearbox fitted.

what’s up with your original drum brake ?
 
They have a bash plate for off road. I've one on my project lightweight. I thought the linkage with the hand lever was totally Heath Robinson, and it needed fettling to actually retract enough, so the pads weren't rubbing, but I think it will work well.

My transmission brake parts are real original 1963 and now worn out and I have problems with oil seals from time to time. I'm also fed up with the palava changing the shoes when I get the oil on them; the disc is high up and I've never had any damage to that area at all. Had the vehicle in 1965 when I got married, so know the history fairly well and as I'm now in my 80's anything that makes life a little easier is useful.

There can't be that many people who can say they've owned the same series 2 from almost new!
Mines a '62 and I'm the second owner, bought it in '93 though

To stop the oil leak fit a new seal, and a speedi sleeve on the output flange, I did this with my s2 and it has not leaked for a few years now, whereas before the new seal would start to leak after a few weeks.
So disc or drum handbrake you will still need that speedi sleeve fiting, cannot rememebr the size, but if you ask on the Series 2 forum someone will be able to tell you.

I used to off road my 90 a lot, and the standard drum was just rubbbish constantly filled up with water/mud, I fitted an X eng discs handbrake to it, that has been flawless for years.

Bend the disc off road? not sure how you'd manage that unless you'd already bent the chassis up like a banana. In which case the handbrake is likely the least of your worries.

The drum brake, while it can be ok, get it wet and/or muddy off road and they are not very good, even in pristine working order.
 
I have the X brake disc hand brake on mine and its great and no it doesn't effect the hystoric status as you are upgrading you hand brake, i've also recently fitted disc brakes all round and still kept the hystoric status :D
