As some may recall, a few weeks ago I was asking about unusual diff
noises, and then reporting on my progress to a fix. When last I posted,
I was getting the diff replaced at a local garage, being too week and
weedy to cope with the job myself.

The actual cost wasn't that bad.

The old diff is now in a corner of the shed, and it really does need
some attention to bearings and the set-up. There's a lot of fore-and-
aft movement on the pinion.

The cause seems to have been the inside end of a broken half-shaft,
which must have been in there since before I bought the Land Rover. The
lump was well-chewed, though the gear teeth on the diff don't look too
bad.

If anybody wants a Rover diff for parts, or even repair, they can have
it. Considering what the workshop manual says about the job, it's not
worth the effort if you are paying a mechanic. Heck, it's hardly worth
the delivery cost. So if you can pick it up from (roughly) 5 miles
south of the M180/A180 junction in northern Lincolnshire, drop me an
email.

Or should I try for a fool on eBay? "Ex-military shaft-speed
synchronizer to fit Land Rover or similar"
