Diesel injector leak

Hi All,

Long time no see. Had a bit of an extended absence due to real life getting in the way of my Land Rover fun.
Back now though and with a distressing number of jobs to attend to on the series 3.

So, to start with the most concerning, I've had a series of diesel leaks. First the pipes split, then another came off, spewing diesel around the bay and on the exhaust and almost set the damn thing on fire.
New hoses and a few unions later and things seem generally OK on the pipe front.

However, now those are fixed it's shown up a small leak from the diesel injectors. Diesel seems to be seeping from the point they connect to the block.

My plan is to remove the injectors, clean them up, replace the sealing washers and put them back. Sounds so simple, but I have a few questions.

Firstly, does this sound like a good idea or am I just going to get myself into a world of hurt trying to do this? The leak is minimal, I'm getting a slight staining on the block after a 1 hour run rather than puddles of fuel lying around.

Secondly, how do the pipes on the top of injectors come off? They look a little delicate and there doesn't seem to be a screw through them or anything. Do they just pull off? Seems unlikely they would be push fit in part of the fuel system.

Thirdly, I can find the seals which go on the injectors online, but I don;t see any gasket listed to go between the injector and the block. Is there one? Should I resort to instant gasket? should they fit closely enough to simply not need one?

Finally for the moment, I've read about having to bleed the diesel system under some circumstances and about needing to ensure that injectors are setup correctly and this worries me. Can I take them out, dismantle them, replace the seals, clean them up and replace them without extensive tinkering with setup or am I better off leaving well alone or getting a professional to sort it out. The latter sounds expensive and that's a bad thing, especially considering the rest of the stuff I need sorted, like a new clutch with no equipment, space or experience to do it myself (going to cost a bloody fortune to get that done I suspect :S ).

The seal is achieved by two washers at the base of the injector, a plain one and a cupped one. It is essential to get them the right way round and right way up. Can't remember which way but it's in the manual.
The common pipe is a push fit but he injector pipe has a flare and olive system. No real seal as such , just make sure flare is clean and undamaged.
It's quite easy to do. As long as the injectors come out ok. It they are sticky then I'd advise you to leave it as they are working and you may do more damage .

Be very careful cleaning to end of the injector aswell. No timing issues. Sometimes you need to bleed the system, sometimes it just starts and just works. Bleeding is in the manual if you need it.
