Hi, I'm trying to fit an oil temp gauge to my 2008 defender.

The sensor is going to plug into an adaptor that in turn bolts into the sump.

Simples me thinks ........ oh no.

Whilst on the phone to the gauge supplier, he asks me what is the thread size on the TDCI engine for the adapter? His tech book only lists LR until end of 2006.

So I've rang my local dealer and they measured one they had in stock and stated it was just about 13MM dia. That didn't sound too accurate so i've loosened the sump plug on my defender and I also measured the dia (with a pair of now very oily verniers) at 13MM.

So then I called the gauge seller fella back. Problem is that size can't be right, because they make an M12 and a M14 adaptor and also some kinda imperial adaptor, but they have never heard of a 13MM dia thread.

So now I need to know the exact size (or at least it's proper stated size)

The problem is I have rang LR 'customer services' and all they say is pay £20.00 and use their 'technical website' to find out  Which was vague to say the least because they didn't even tell me how to get on it.

Anybody out there know the correct size ....... ?

Not sure of the spec size but my guess would be either M12 or M 14 thred as hopefully LR hae moved away from imperial threads by now!

best bet would be to pop down to B&Q with the verniers in hand and measure the bolts in the buckets until you find the right one -THEN BUY ONE and try it in the hole! - may be just as cheep and easier to pay LR £20 quid?

Other option - is remember this is basicly a ford transit engine - have you tried searching for the specs on that? - but LR did make a few modificatons - i can't see whey they would change the sump thread size?

Thats the prob, it aint 12 or 14 M.
B& QA sounds the ticket, but that will have to wait, nearest diy shop iks 14 miles away.

Just hoped someone on here might know the answer so I can get the damn gauge ordered.:)
