Hi All,

I need to replace at some time the rear cross member (probably with extensions) on a 90 300Tdi and have searched the threads on this website and others for all the tips etc. But one question that seems to crop up is the general poor fit of the replacement, whether Bearmach or Britpart. Is this generally the case? Or is there a better part out there somewhere?

Regards

I've had a britpart one from paddocks that was useless had to go back. Just fitted a bearmach on went on ok. My advice would be get it from somewhere local so you can see it's straight before parting with yer dosh.

hi fitted britpart one to my 86' 90 not too bad, but if you can do the job in the first place minor adjustments quite easy. did mine with rear body removed and made jig from angle iron too keep it all lined up :)

There was a bit of a shortage a few months ago due to the main manufacturer in this country stopping production. Paddocks had got a batch that were all out of line so couldn't be fitted without cutting and re aligning the extensions. The bearmach one I ended up with fits ok with a few small alterations where it goes over the existing chassis stubs.
With the benefit of hindsight I wish I'd made one up myself. It could have been simpler without all the little nooks and crannies that trap mud and cause it to rot, plus it could have been way stronger than the replacement ones that are available.
