defender power loss

Hi all this is my first post,
Ive got a 1998 defender 3.0tdi that has developed an intermittent problem that has been going on for several weeks. When accelerating hard or driving up a hill the revs suddenly drop, the engine doesnt stall but idles, after a few seconds of pressing the accelerator the revs increase again and I can drive on. I have checked the sedimentor, the fuel line and changed the fuel filter, still the same problem. Lift pump seems ok and was replaced recently. Im not sure what else it could be. Any help would be great. thanks

- Ive got 2 defenders similar age both 2.5l 300tdi,had them for about 5 years and driven all over Zimbabwe, its not all jungle!! We have occasional electricity, a little water (mostly in the fuel) and plenty of deep potholes.

Does it happen with empty and full tank? Any difference if you switch to an other fuel tank (if you happen to have one)?
I'm shooting at the fuel pickup with this...

It happens with any fuel level, currently happening with 1/2 tank. Dont have a second tank.

post it anew in the defender section and i will have a guess that it draws air somewhere...

but maybe it's a common fault i dont know anything about with my elderly series.
