Defender or Disco ?????

Hi, thinking of getting myself a landy, not sure what is the best. Defender 90/110 or discovery.

Have set the following criteria :-

Want to go offroading, been advised defender is the best.

Want the 300tdi, to use biodiesel.

Want to be able to do some/most of repairs myself.

Must have seats in the back, even temp folding ones.

Any ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated.

I suspect you will find that Defender owners will say get a defender (or a 110) and Disco owners would say get a Disco – both are very capable although converting a defender from seating in the rear to big empty space for carrying “things” is going to be much easier if you have inward facing bench type seats.

Which do YOU like the look of? Get one of those, not what some blokes on the internet tell you.

As said it depends what your main use is gonna be having owned both the disco is a good as a 110 defender offroad (same chassis and suspension setup but shorter ) and better onroad(quieter comfortable less leaks.) So I'd say Disco. But they are prone to rusting and body damage is harder to repair if it gets wallopped whilst offroading. Again It really depends what your main use is gonna be. Also the 200tdi can use Biodiesel/SVO as well.

If you can get a 300tdi Disco with a good chassis then thats what I would go for. The defender is a slightly more capable off road car but even though the engine is the same the defender is geared much lower than the disco. Which is great if your going to be towing and off roading all the time but it also means that as a standard car its going to cost you more to run a defender than a disco.

I had to make this desicion about 2 weeks ago, looked at a couple of defenders then discos, now I have a disco purley because I wanted a capable off roader that was also a reasonably comfortable road car.
