After a little help!
I'm rebuilding my early 90 and the original lower steering shaft was pretty rough so thought I'd replace it.
I was advised on a defender facebook group that the new style defender shaft was interchangeable with the old style.
As the new style are cheaper including both UJ's than the old style is without both UJ's, I ordered one from Bearmach - QME500030R.
As you can see from the photo they're very different lengths (and I checked the new one is fully extended).
The original one fits, so I haven't done anything stupid with bulkhead position or sheering box swap.
I see there is a Disco1 shaft which is QME500040. Anyone know if this is longer or shorter than the defender version? I checked the box and it has the correct code, but as they both look the same, I guess it's possible that someone put the wrong one in the box.
Any other ideas?
Thanks.
Ken.

Is it possible to get a piece of hexagonal shaft the same as used in the new shaft just slightly longer?

As its a fairly safety critical part I'd rather not mess with it if i can avoid it. Its a pretty unusual shape so would probably cost more to buy than the whole shaft cost me.
I'm trying to figure out whether the original advice was incorrect or theyve packed the wrong item in the box of the new one.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
