Good evening all,

Im looking for some advice, I have a 2001 TD5 90 and recently have just failed my MOT on handbrake effiecncy (I had replaced handbrake shoes for last years MOT). so l took the handbrake apart all looked ok but replaced hanbrake cable just incase it was stretched. When it came to adjusting up the handbrake, as usual I was tightening the 17mm bolt all the way tight till the wheels locked up then would a 1/4 turn off. however this time when I adjusted the handbrake up the wheels hadnt locked up and the tightness I was feeling was the adjusted wound all the way. Would this be due to worn shoes or is there something else to it.

Thanks,

Sam

There are two types of handbrake activation on Defenders ... Earlier versions have a lever, later versions the cable is directly connected. Both have adjustments other than the nut near the handrake lever itself.

What vehicle do you have ?
What year ?
What type of handbrake activation ?
