Hey all, I need your help, hope some one can help

Getting smoke when starting engine, it doesn't run off and is more noticeable when i accelerate.

I have a 1990 90 hard top, 2.5TD snorkel attached

To make matters worse the air filter has quite a bit of oil in it and when you disconnect the pipes there is an oil residue.

I have disconnected the engine breather and smoke is clearly noticable, reconnected the breather and removed the oil filler cap, obviously smoke blowing. I removed the dipstick, placed my finger over it, no obvious pressure and the engine doesnt spit oil out. The hose from the turbocharger to the air cleaner has a lot of oil on it.....

Havent noticed any loss of power, but would appreciate your help!

K, black smoke aint anything to do with oil, its too much fuel for the amount of air its sucking in.

Change the air filter, so you know that aint blocking it, which is probably the most likely suspect.

Failing that, check that the vacuum hose from the turbo to the injection pump is good, not blocked or split, and then finally if that don'ty help, turn the smoke screw on the pump back a bit - theres threads on here about how its done im sure.

Hope this helps!

Thanks mate... will look into that!

Queston for you, seems to be more oil that you would expect in the air filter... is this caused by what you described

Cheers

Thanks for the offer mate, just ordered one so should be here in a few days.... will give teh pipes a good clean out with parrafin as well..

I had a 19J. They puff out loads of smoke from the breather, thats normal. The oil in the air box if from there, dont bother re-connectiong the pipe to ur box. If your having trouble starting it, change the air filter and the glow plugs. In winter time its worth heating the plugs three times befor cranking it as there on a timer not a thermostat.

Appreciate the heads up guys!

New filter arrived today, will clean out the pipes and have a look at the vaccum hose on Saturday.....

Could it be possible that maybe one of the fuel injectors are gubbed?
