The alternator on mine has three wires.

One big one to the B terminal is obviously the main charge supply. Then there are two smaller terminals (which take a special plug but standard 1/4" spades fit them fine): one is 'L' which is the connection to the charge warning light, and the other is 'S' which is the sense wire. This should be run to the battery positive post, though you can get away with just linking it onto the big B terminal - the only problem is that the alternator then won't compensate for any voltage losses in the main charge link.

Every photo of these engines I have seen has had a different alternator unit on so the above may not be the case for yours, but the majority of these Japanese type alternators seem to be of this style.

In answer to your actual query I am not sure where one would attach the rev counter wire to, there doesn't seem to be a 'W' terminal on my alternator - or not a marked one anyway.
 
What vehicle used the sl35t? Looking at maybe doing something similar with my new project.

The Mazda T-3500 light truck, also sold as the Ford Trader in some markets. And used in a number of other commercial vehicle applications such as the Mazda Parkway bus and I think some fire engines in Aus? Nothing that was ever sold in the UK anyway. The engines in this country generally originated from import companies such as Motor and Diesel/Watson and Turner who started to import these lumps in the eighties when petrol was dearer than diesel and people with V8 Range Rovers etc. we're looking to convert to a diesel engine without losing the performance. They derived the conversion parts to fit to Land Rover transmissions and chassis.

They turn up on eBay fairly often, generally in a rotten Range Rover though sometimes standalone as well.

Whilst I was away, I sent the alternator away to a specialist, just give it the once over and see why I cant pick up a tacho reading.
It turns out it never had a tacho feed from the alternator, so they nicely worked there magic and now it has one.uploadfromtaptalk1425933046987.jpg

Sounds great!

On the 'factory' installs of these engines in RRCs they swapped the intercooler and radiator around in the frame so the intercooler is on the drivers side. Then there is a set of steel pipes and silicone bends which match the air system up nicely.

But at the end of the day the layout doesn't really matter so long as the right bits connect together :)
