Hi there. New disco 1 owner here.

I've recently had a bit of engine trouble and while it's been stripped down I decided to change the timing belt.

I've been on with this job today, but when I'd fitted it and went to turn it over manually a couple of times the crank shaft pulley jammed after 1.5 turns. This happened at the exact same point a couple of times.

Does anyone know what might cause it?

Get onto the internet and look up vids on setting up the cam timing on a 300tdi engine, there is plenty of info and youtube vids there.
For the engine not to be able to be turned, you must have the cam timing set wrong, do not force the crankshaft as valves and pistons are coming in contact and damage can occur to either.
Basically you need number 1 cylinder on top dead centre, compression stroke both valves closed, insert the timing lock pin through the tapped plug hole in the bellhousing into the slot in the flywheel from beneath the vehicle.
With the crankshaft held in that position the strike on the cam sprocket should line up with the strike on front of the block.
A 9.5 mm dia drill or pin should then be inserted through the injection pump drive boss and sprocket and into the hole in the injection pump body.
If any of these points are not lined up on your engine, the timing is wrong and the engine may not run or run badly.
Re check the valve timing, you have it wrong at present.
