Hi again folks,
Well this morning the new crank pulley locking tool was made up from measurments I took yesterday. Looks just like this...
Again made it pretty grunty thinking it would be getting a bash. Also made the handle very long as you can see so it would be up at the top of the engine. This proved very handy for one man operation!
If you need to make one them dimensions I used are 75mm centres for M8 bolts. Drilled the holes 9mm each side to give a bit of movement. Put a 50mm opening in the middle to allow access for socket. Width of round part is 40mm with a long handle welded flush with one face and at 90 degrees to the holes. Like this...
If I were making another I would make the OD 10mm less as I didnt notice the recess in the crack pulley so it sat a bit proud.
The long handle comes in handy as you can rotate the pulley so the two screw holes are horizontal, then attach the special tool so that the handle can be locked against the bolt of the removed viscous fan above. It screws down tight with the bar against the upper pulley face and locks nice and tght against the nut. You can then leave it in place while you work on the crank pulley nut!
You will need a 24mm socket with a long breaker bar attached, then some kind of extension bar for added leaverage. The socket obviously goes in the middle of the locking tool. Looks pretty grunty!!
