The coolant temp gauge in my 2.25 3brg is being a bit... static. Not really, really static and not moving. Just... not doing much.

Turn it on, stone cold, and it reads the lower end of N. I've checked the sender, and I'm getting about 100ohm at the sender terminal to earth, gauge disconnected. Disconnect the sender, and the gauge dives for cold.

When it's up to temperature, it's getting as far as the other side of the letter N... I've just put a new 82deg 'stat in, and I'm definitely getting 82deg at the 'stat housing, and the 'stat is definitely opening. It's going up no further than that - the coolant's new, and the rad looks good. At that temp, I'm seeing about 60ohm at the sender.

I think the hot reading's probably about right - but the sender seems to be very reluctant to read correctly cool. Can anybody do me a two-second favour and point a multimeter at the sender on theirs, please, before I just replace the thing? Hot and cold. 100ohm to 60ohm sounds like a very narrow range, so I'm 90% that's the problem.

Here is some readings I took awhile ago series sender was a good working unit.
Temperature 13 15 18 56 100C
series sender 460 385 323 118 56
300tdi 770 587 511 150 98
200Tdi 4100 2800 2000 600 300
For some reason numbers will not stay in line

New sender fitted - and it's instantly right down at cold (600ohm or so). Start it up, and it starts to gently rise within a minute or two. Lovely. I've not taken it for a drive yet - the 2cv's going to MOT this pm, after yesterday was spent swapping kingpins and rebuilding TREs on it...

Mildly dischuffed about the sender I received, though - I deliberately paid a little more for one that specified AllMakes... and got a blue (unlabelled) bag.
