Got a quick question, does anyone know how many litres of coolant are held in the engine block of a diesel p38? Rave says the whole system holds 11.3 litres but just wondered how much of that would be in the block...

Why not? just thinking that if you do a half coolant change like RAVE discribes you only remove the rad drain plug not the plug on the block. So if the whole system holds 11.3 liters but you only drain the rad and not the block how will you know wen the systems full if you don't know how much is still in it to start with??

Ok that's fair enough but was thinking that if the block held say 5 lts and you could only get 6lts in you'd know it was full that was all.

Thanks for your help tho.

If you remove the rad drain plug with the top off the expansion cap won't most of it siphon out if the coolant is hot and the thermostat is open? Suppose you could even run the engine for a minute or so to pump the residual out? Would that be safe?

Im not sure Grrrr to be honest the only real reason for asking was if you do like a theostat change and don't need to dump all the coolant it would be good to know how much it takes before it's full. That way you'd be sure it had enough in it.
