Hi all,

Had a leak from the water jacket drain plug on my TD5 so I took the exhaust manifold off today to try and fix it. Manifold got off, no broken studs, so I thought this is going well. Even the plug itself just unscrewed out with minimal effort, BUT, I somehow did not thought of draining the coolant before undoing the plug, so a bit of the coolant ended up draining into the exhaust ports on the block when the plug came out...

So my question is, would I be ok just doing an oil change now before trying to start the car again or am I looking at a bit of an headache?

Turn it over by hand a couple of times, (socket on front pulley) if it does then good to go, if it doesn’t :(.

If it doesn’t leave it overnight and try again until you can turn by hand:). Remember there will be a bit of compression to overcome.

Do not be tempted to do on the starter;).

How much went in? As I don’t know the TD5 layout.

Hard to say how much as it was all quite quick and some also drained to the ground. I would say perhaps 200ml...

That's a lot of liquid in one or even split over all 5 cylinders. I don't know the Td5 engine, but if I was in a similar situation with my 300 Tdi I'd take the injectors out, spin it over on the starter a fair bit. Leave it over night and do the same the next day. Have someone watch to see what comes out each time to see if it gets obviously better as you go on. The volumetric space at the top of the cylinder, when the piston gets to top dead centre, is very small.
 
As al203 said above, remove injectors, and remove fuel pump fuse, the td5 bending Con rods isn’t uncommon
 
Got stuck last night as the fan wouldnt come out, so called it a night. Just attacked this again and hand cranked the engine few times, seems to spin fine so hopefully all good.

I guess it probably looked worse then I thought as the coolant gushed out but perhaps not much drained into the engine hopefully.

Waiting for some replacement studs and then I can put everything back together. Fingers crossed everything works out...
