hi all ive got my self some dislocation cones or the back of my Disco 1 that should be fitted to the top. however ive been told to put them on the bottom of the spring on the Spring loctor and fasten the spring up at the top. is this right? and what is the best thing to do?

I'd go with whatever the manufacturer says about them ... if they're designed for the top, then fit to the top.

I've never heard of anyone fitting their cones to the bottom.

Yep I've heard of people doing that, But never saw the sense in it. At the end of the day If it dislocates, when the axle comes back up, it isn't going to make any difference to which end the spring is fastened to! As long as the cone fit back inside the spring..

I've seen it on competition machines with humongous articulation, but never on 'normal' Landies .. IYSWIM. ;)

Thinking about it, it might be argued that fitting to the bottom might reduce unsprung weight a bit ...?
