Clutch problems

Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 freelander 2 (manual). I am now having problems selecting gears. My mechanic says I need to replace the clutch which will cost up £500 (mainly labour cost). I have been told about 'Lucus Transmission Fluid' which is meant is temp repair, but could solve the issue ! Does anyone know if this product works or any other possible solution ?
