Hello hive-brain!
A question. A problem. 1996 110 300tdi
Problem first, after having to lift the clutch peddle off the floor a couple of times the pedal went solid, and by looking at some threads on here narrowed it down to clutch fork. So bought the kit - plate heavy-duty fork baring.
Question, it looks like I've got access to a garage spot with hydraulic lift all sorts of engine jacks etc (for a price) so, do I drop the whole lot out of the bottom by cross member and lift the pig up out of the way or get it done through the floor and tunnel? Please bare in mind that I need to do this in a day and want/try to minimise the can of worms potential.
Thank you in advance for your esteemed knowledge.

First post and nothing to sayn who you are or where you are!

Might I most respectfully suggest that you find a thread called "Introduce yourself" before you get pounced on by some of the Ol;d Gimmers!

In answer to your question, it is possible to drop the gearbox and change a full clutch in around 4 hours out in the street ... less if you have access to all the gubbins.

Take the tunnel and floor out, remove the rear prop, and slide the box back on the cross member.

You should be able to change the fork without too much difficulty.

It's easier if there are two of you.

You will have to remove the gearbox mounting if its the same set up as my disco, ive just done it, and there isnt enough room to get the box back far enough to get the fork out, and to be able to get the top bolts from the top of the bell housing, its also very heavy and the transfer box being off centre makes it very awkward to jack up, so be careful lol

Strip the center console out of the vehicle and use an engine hoist/crane through the door to lower the box to the floor.

The other option is lift the engine and leave the gear box in place. both have their pro's and con's.

I used the engine crane through the door on my disco and removed the engine on the defender. If im honest the engone removal was the easiest of the two.
