Hello there folks, im buying a 1994 defender 110 300tdi, ive seen the vehicle and it seems very tidy but when i changed the gears there was a clunking noise. the bloke im buying it off said that you have to ease the clutch up slowly and this resolves the problem. im new to 4x4 vehicles and have not driven something this old before, does anybody have any advice? Any and all would be appreciated thanks
Steve

is this an expensive or big job to fix?

Not expensive but good fun to get the old one out and the new one in....there are some good posts in here that can talk you through that.

My ninety had the same clunk and it was the rear balljoint alright.

...bottom line on these things anyway....everything is fixable!

regards,
Alan

sounds like it might just be "backlash",its just play in the diffs and drive shaft splines that developes as the landy gets older,if so i wouldnt worry about it as all older landrovers have it
