No sparrows found... 
Only happens when cold and during first startup. Goes away usually within 5 minutes of running, also goes away above 2k-RPM. Guessing a tensioner of some description? Belts seem fine and aren't slipping, engine oil is factory spec and just done - as it is every 4000-5000km.
Had a 300tdi once which did a similar thing but FAR worse.
Advice and suggestions from the wise are greatly appreciated!
