hello all, new member, ive aquired a rolling galvanised chassis thats not done a lot, the idea being to replace the knackered chassis on my otherwise tight lwb 111 using only the galvanised chassis . will i have an uphill job getting it past the mot testers as it obviously isnt going to look like a new chassis even after blasting and a disguiing coat of paint. my main concern is that my own series three had failed on many areas of the chassis before i bought it and that was on a new computer type test, therefore if the tester wishes to make his life easy and checks the failure sheet when he goes to check the chassis repairs there wont be any, and as i understand it you need a receipt from the manufacturer for a new chassis to avoid a q plate, am i being over cautious and how does it work in general, regards, stuart
 
i have a similar problem, bought a scrap 90,and im using my 110 bits and chassis. Will eventually become a 90. Not sure if you can tell the dvla you've modified your original chassis
 
The MoT tester should not be able to access previous failure sheets, something to do with Data Protection apparently. Seems a bit silly to me.
It is not the Mot Tester's job to police Q plates. His concern will be the state of the chassis.
 
On thinking about my earlier reply, I think he can pull up his previous failure sheets, but I'm told he cannot access failure sheets from a different tester.
 
I have defniately had previous failure sheets printed for two years before i had the car that was tested elsewhere, as i was curious about some things about it. Turns out the last two failure sheets were both 2 pages long! was a good car though.
 
Just gob a good coat of underseal over the new chassis and rebuild your old landy on it. Keep your original identity. Even if the MOT man looks at it and discovers its been "fully repaired" so what? He is not allowed remove the underseal to check it - just to give it a light tap. Job done.
