changing fuel pump?

i am going to attempt to change the fuel pump on my series 3 today
i have looked at the spline and noticed the master spline mark. if i remove the old pump and dont move the engine as long i align the master spline i should be ok???? i have read the haynes manual and they talk about setting the timing ect. but if i do not move the engine and mark the housing should i be ok?

i would re time the engine to all the timing marks to be safe
