Disco 2 CD changer

Hi all, does anyone know if you can get the CD changer out WITHOUT removing the seat?
Manual says you have to

Remove the plastic shroud from around the bottom of the seat I think it’s 3 screws and then you’ll have plenty of room

Thanks for the replies it's something I've been meaning to do for ages. Job for tomorrow & if I can't fix it I'll take the one out of my FL1 which I know works but I've changed the H/U so it's no longer needed.

Just fixed a Pioneer dvd/CD player of my dad's - not reading discs. Only took 5 minutes - just took the housing off and cleaned the laser with a cotton bud and some IPA and now good as gold - my dad was surprised it was so easy to fix - so was I!

IPA? you mean beer?
wish I'd been able to do this with the one from my D1, since slung. I tried one of those CD player cleaning discs, but it made no difference.

Removed the cover off the D2 changer but couldn't see anything obvious wrong with it, ejects magazine ok (& with the cover off it pulls the selected disc to read but then says CD error). So I've swapped it for the FL changer as it's identical except the mounting brackets, which just swap over. It's now all working great.

Hi, I'll give that lens cleaning a try as when it has selected a disc it plays fine but seems to seize (cd error) when you select another disc. As you'll see I've fitted the FL unit for now.

The Iso Propyl Alcohol (IPA) cleans but leaves no residue behind. The laser lens looked clean to me, but once cleaned with the IPA and the cotton bud, it's been good as gold ever since! YouTube videos out there explain the simple process; if it doesn't work then you can adjust a couple of tiny potentiometers that are next to the laser lens and that usually does the trick.

Another type of IPA (of the alcoholic variety) is welcome when it works again and you realise you've saved a perfectly good piece of kit from landfill!

Sounds like something mechanical. The laser thing apparently happens a lot with CD and DVD players - fine dust must just build up over time until a tipping point is reached - just won't read/recognise discs. I imagine thousands of players have been turfed over the years just because of a dirty lens - we sometimes clean the discs, but the lens also eventually gets dirty.
