I am looking for a suitable place to mount my new CB radio (xmas present from my misses... god bless her) and was thinking about cutting a hole through the centre console in my 2005 90 in the location were the old swivel ashtray used to be just below the din mounting spot for the existing radio. I have my work supplied Nokia CK7W Bluetooth kit in this space as well behind the dashboard but before I disassemble the dash has anyone out there done this or any sensible alternative location for the radio?

You could get a MUD console.

Do a search for this exact question its been done many times before. Some threads with pictures!

Do you have a cubby box or centre seat?

he dont need 1 he's got a 2005 deepender he's got the original design in there
i would'nt if i was you mate will spoil the thing in my 56 plate i just take the center seat swab out when off-roading and lay it in there .
unless you have a cubby box , if so put it in or on that in the gap behind would be good
make sure you runa direct feed from the battery as the elactronics play havoc with the cb through the ciggy lighter or fuse box
try to get your arial up as high as pos too.

Cheers – I have a MUD tray and their centre console is the same as the LR original but with no cut outs – still searching as suggested.

Aye thats right so you do... I forgot I didn't need to fit that!

Another thing is security, the little scrotes will see it might decide they want it. If the radio you have has channel control on the mic then you could make a mounting for it behind your seat on the rear bulkhead - get a mic extension if needed.
