that time of year again,
currently insured with direct line been with them for several years but
think they are little dear now i have the disco. looking for alternative
companies to try,any recommendations?
first idea i had was the NFU, do they do monthly instalments?

I reinsured ( the scooby) with direct line after being royally scr*w*d by
the RAC after I had done the deal I was pricing up for a Disco tdi ( turned
out to be modified so it didn't pan out) and found Liverpool Victoria were a
bit cheaper on standard motors

Recently re-insured both the Freelander and the 90 with More
Than. Very competitive pricing and painless switch from
Tesco.

Had cause to use the service recently when SWMBO filled the
diesel Freelander with a LOT of petrol - started the engine.
Recovered by LR assistance to dealer half the engine changed
at an estimated £K3. More Than sorted it on the phone
straight away and we had the vehicle back within a couple of
days. Not a single piece of paperwork.

The LR dealer charged us a tenner for the diesel they put
in!!

Saga gave me a great quote for new business, but when renewal time came
their quote was silly. Plus they don't like modifications, so you get a
f/off price for those as well. I went with Footman James this time. Best
quote (for Disco and S2a) by a mile.

just did an online quote with more-than it came back £19 a year cheaper than
direct line.

Tesco is actually run by Direct Line, the online forms are even
identical, but I always get a better quote from Tesco than I
do with Direct Line direct!

Even though I can't stand that incredibly annoying advert,
www.confused.com is actually quite a good service and came up
with some amazingly cheap quotes (given that she has zero no-claims)
when insuring my wifes car.

Yes they do and always given me the lowest quote for last 7 years for
110csw; and they know what it is !!
Tried to get a quote from LR UK site from the "specialists" they have; girl
at end put me on hold to check if they could insure a 12 seater ( so much
for their extensive specialist knowledge !! )

yes. good service, from my local branch anyway. probably not the cheapest
but they, unlike many others, will do the insurance I need for carriage of
schoolchildren.

I havent had much luck with online quotes. As soon as you get to "is
the vehicle modified in any way" and you say Yes, they say they can't
help and ask you to phone instead. Do all these people who get online
quotes have NO modifications at all? Or do they just not declare them?

FWIW, I would even declare non-standard tyres, which covers just about
every LR I've ever owned.

That's true, online stuff is only really good if you are Mr Average!

Have you checked through the back of the LR mags and given some of those
guys a ring?

Interesting, IME Adrian Flux are brokers not insurers.
That said they do seem able to broker insurance for many LandRovers, although not
in my case.

Here in lies a story for me. Phoned Sureterm and got a quote, phoned
Flux, and got a quote, both were giving the exact same insurance with
the exact same company, exact same start date etc, Flux were over £100
cheaper. Always ring round but still find I can't fault Flux for
price.

Having said that, insurance can be silly depending on whether you are
new or existing, time of the year and target deadlines, etc. SWMBO
was recomended one company, got in touch and found they wanted over
£1000 for her, yet got insurance with an "expensive" company for
£300ish.

Sureterm are pretty reasonable about haggling. Last year the insurers
for my Audi decided all cars must have immobilisers fitted. I complained
to Sureterm and asked if they could reduce the premium to compensate for
it, they came down £100 to cover its cost. I thought that was quite
reasonable, but of course I had to ask them to do it.

What have you got?! I spent hours on the phone to _every_ insurer
listed in all of the LR mags last year and Adrian Flux were the only
ones that spoke any sense. As soon as you start talking more than 3
modifications those "we cover modifications" adverts can't deal with
you (yes, it's a new chassis, different body, larger engine, new EFI,
uprated shocks etc.). Adrian Flux on the other hand could and did and
amazingly enough charged a very reasonable sum for doing so. An
engineers report and a few photos were all that was needed. The actual
insurer in my case was NIG whoever they are.

Just tried Tesco online and they are about £100 more expensive than
Liverpool Victoria for me.

Series III Hybrid, RR chassis, 110 Axles, XJS V12 motor.
Will shortly be for sale if anybody interested.

As for A F, we fell out because my supplied photos were deemed inadequate!
