Can't engage 1st gear

I noticed on my 1999 autobiography yesterday that I cannot physically slide the gear lever (AUTO BOX) down to number 1 on the selector gate. I can select 2 or 3 and the box works just fine in those positions including Drive etc. Is there some sort of adjustment that can be done to sort this? Is there a cable I can tweak?

Yes there are adjustments that can be made to selector cable. They are contained in RAVE, you will have to follow those, they cannot really be described on here. However if your gear leaver is in 2,3rd or D on dash when in correct position for 2,3rd or D on on lever i would think there is some problem other than an adjustment issue. Adjustment is quite complexed so follow RAVE that is really about the only thing i can recommend.

HI Thanks for that. All other gears are fine for selection occasionally a little clunky when first engaged but other than that ok. The display shows the correct gears too - Just not 1st on the lever or display :0(

Clunky first engagement is quite common if your vehicle has just been started from cold and the tickover RPM is elevated by the choke.
