Hello there all,

I have a question... Just had a massive quote from a garage to replace my Catalytic converter. The coverter itself is fine, but the 'flexible coupling' that is part of it has split and as its all part of the unit, they say it all has to be replaced.

Would you reccomend getting a new one and if so a second hand one, or has anyone got theirs welded up before?

Thanks!

would welding a flexible coupling not just make it a coupling ?

the point of the flexible coupling is to allow movement between the various components, weld it up and the components can't move relative to each other.

this may place additional strain on the flanges etc leading to premature failure of the whole unit.

that said, don't see why the flexible bit can't be ground off and a new one welded on
