can you get one of these for a land rover?

Hi all,

I have a 110 pickup (non hi cap) and every now and then have to carry longer items - ladders, 12' wooden rails, etc. My method so far has been to tie them down to the tailgate and resting on the cab roof, so as not to stick out too far backwards and possibly overbalance!

What I would like is some sort of affair like you see on some of the jap pickups - a bar going up just behind the cab, to protect the rear window and roof. I don't know what this bar is called though, so here's a pic

does anyone know if and where you can get these for a land rover?

Single arm roof rack mounted near the rear of the cab will allow you to tie it down, if thats not what you're after then i'm sure all makes or britpart do an accessory.

For me i just used a 40mm rail and bolted the whole thing together with corner pieces and 2 return legs bolted to the wheel arches at the rear, steady as a rock.
 
MUC1086 is the part number for the ladder-rack for a High-Cap, speak to a parts supplier to see if they list an item for the normal width body.
If not, use one off a Series vehicle as the body is the same width.

If you can't get one off the shelf you could get one made up using suitable sized tubing with a couple of lugs bolted/welded on. A normal hood-stick is too short/not strong enough but it would be very easy to make a HD hoop (without going to roll-bar spec) and utilize the sockets in the capping.

well thanks a lot everyone, it looks like making my own might be the best option! for some reason I often get my hopes up that I will be able to buy exactly what I want for exactly the price I want to pay, and as a result get let down often...
 
just occurred to me - could I buy a light bar (without lights) and mount it on the back of the cab, to rest things on as and when needed? or would this not work? :confused:

Heres some pics of mine, cost me £15 for the bar & bits from the tip:

This thing takes a hell of a lot weight on it and is steady as a rock, i've had 5 sheets of 18mm ply on it with not a whisper of movement, also it's just 2 bolts to remove the upright and bar
