Hi,
I have recently got myself a 97 R V8i ES 3.9 LPG and need a few bits for it. Firstly, is this a 100, 200 or 300 series? Secondly, I need a n/s/f wing (pref metallic blue!) to replace the dented one and I also need the little bit that goes between the wing and under the headlamp ( I dont know the technical term.

Also, the car was running like a good un, until very recently. It sometimes starts on the button - either petrol or gas - and runs fine for a few minutes and then just dies. It will re-start after a lot of cranking (once I had to leave it as the battery went flat), but starts ok on jumping or after leaving for a while. I have replave the rotor arm and spark plus - any ideas greatly appreciated!
Cheers and have a good xmas.
Derek

There is no 100 series and the 200 & 300 refer to the TDi diesel engines that were fitted. I believe 99 makes yours a discovery 2. Can't help you with the starting problem but the wing should be easy enough to find try looking on ebay for one thats been broken or a specialist landy breakers (google)

Merry Xmas

Hi derek, and greetings from another newbie! I've recently aquired a Landy so I don't know a lot about them. My main transport is Vauxhall Monterey (badge engineered Izusu Trooper) and it also runs on LPG. I had a similar problem to you and it transpired it was the fuel pump wire needed replacing as it was intermittently shorting out somewhere and starving the engine of fuel.
Not saying thats what yours is, but worth checking the fuel side as well as the electrical!:)

Guys - thanks for the very quick and helpful replies. I am alreadyb impressed with this club and members!

You have a good xmas and watch out for Jack ( Daniels) - he tends to creep up on you!

Cheers

Plug Leads! On Gas? Change your plug leads to 12mm min. stainless steel trace leads. Trust me!

Hi there,

I am new to this forum too.
I recently bought the exact same model as Derek, though I have not yet installed LPG (Have it booked into a converting garage though.)

I was recently driving the vehicle and it also simply died on me about 5 miles into the journey. I cranked for a while (Nothing) then ensured all plugleads were properly attached (Nothing) Then pressed the engine cut-out reset button under the bonnet and it then it kicked back into life after a short crank... Am not sure if engine starting after me pressing that reset button was coincidence or not,.. but I have since driven approx 20 Miles with it with no problem... I hope the problem does not return, but it sounds rather similar to Derek's problem. I will check out electricals too...

Regards,

Anthonio

PS, as you purchased a 1997 model on an R-plate like me, it is a "Discovery 1".

Yeah, like redhand said, when people call them 200 or 300 series it refers to the name of the diesel engine rover was putting in them. Just so happens that they released the new 300tdi engine when they updated the looks of the motor as well as various other upgrades/changes mechanically and electrically so people still call them 300 or 200 even though both are technically still a Discovery 1.
