hey all,

Land Rover Defender, 110, year: 2006; TD5

I redid my head, bought the head gasket, and all is good.

the problem comes when I torque the bolts

at 22, the engine rotates (camshaft as well)

at 48 lbs the engine rotates (camshaft as well)

after the 90 degrees, 180 degrees, the engine rotates, but NOT the camshaft.

How do I know this? I REMOVE the gear, and the engine rotates (half a turn one way, half a turn the other way), I REFIT the gear on to the cam, and the engine WILL NOT TURN.

what could be my problem?? .... anyone??

could the carrier be warped or.... loose, or should I install a small gasket ??

thanks for any help,

Antonio

What exactly did you do to the cylinder head, if skimmed how much did they take off?
Iirc the cam carrier is line bored to suit that head only and cannot be mixed and matched
I assume you have the timing spot on?

I took it to the machine shop to get skimmed, but do NOT know how much they took off.

the cam carrier was NOT changed. it is the same one that was working before I took everything apart.

the timing is SPOT on.

Like I said, the engine rotates with the head torqued to the 1st setting.

it rotates with the head torqued to the 2nd setting

it won't rotate when I start torquing with angles.....

so my guess is, that the carrier is 'squeezing' the cam??
