I wasn't being sarcastic, my Disco has just hit 111,000 miles and I'm genuinely worried, no way could I afford to pay a garage to replace the cam if need be and i certainly wouldn't have the confidence to do it myself :(

EDIT: How would I know if I have a problem? I remember we had to change the cam on our 1984 RRC but it got so bad that the worn cam lobe, the cylinder it was 'connected' to became badly worn and after a compression test had a lot less compression than the other 7 cylinders, I don't want things to get this bad with my new Disco :(

Has anyone succesfully done over 150,000 miles without any problems?

Can anyone reccomend a place to buy a new cam/tappets etc etc, would you reccomend genuine parts or pattern parts and if pattern parts any reputable manufacturers/suppliers, I don't want to buy rubbish that's going to feck up but at the same time I don't want to have to take out a mortgage to be able to afford genuine parts.

Im really sorry TWEETS im just so use to getting sarcastic comments on this forum. Im worried too because RPI engineering reckon the camshaft should be replaced between 70 and 80K and mine has done 74K.

I do know that you can buy higher performance cam kits for the series 1 disco V8. I have no idea how much a garage would charge to fit, most garages charge between £36 - £50 an hour. I wonder if anybody on here knows how long should it take to fit a new camshaft?

My Disco has been running on gas for the last 3/4 years, I've heard good things about gas not being an abrasive like petrol, I know petrol doesn't get anywhere near the cam shaft but maybe because of this I'll get lucky

I wouldn't fit high performance cams, I would want to put the same spec as original in, in a couple of months I'll get the parts bought, and when I'm in there I'll get the water pump done too
